Celebrating on the candlelit cruise

Guests write about this cruise as a place for couples and birthdays. One guest describes the crew putting a candle in a pudding and getting the band to play Happy Birthday, and others call it a good evening for a romantic occasion. None of that is a promise, and no decoration, cake or special table is part of the booking, so ask the crew politely when you board and do not count on it. The candlelit setting and the music carry the occasion on their own.

Groups and party groups

Party groups are not allowed on the candlelit cruise, so it suits couples, families and small groups of friends. If your plan is a party, choose another evening. The booking is per person, and the operator of the boat sells the cruise directly as well. Its own FAQ mentions discounted group rates for parties of 20 or more, and its site has a separate page for chartering an event boat, which suits a larger celebration better.

The buffet cruise for bigger tables

The River Diva cruise is the easier fit for a group. Tables follow booking size and availability, and the booking asks you to book together whenever possible, so that everyone is seated together. Specific tables and window seats cannot be guaranteed. Special birthday decorations, cakes or celebration arrangements are not included unless confirmed in advance. Guests have described celebrating a 25th wedding anniversary on this cruise, with the unlimited drinks as part of the evening.

The drinks sail for a short party

The unlimited drinks sail welcomes couples, families, birthday celebrations and groups of friends, but it lasts only 75 minutes and is not run as a nightclub or dance party. Outside food and drinks are not allowed, with one exception: birthday cakes. Seating is first come, first served and groups must board together, so send the whole party in at the same time and arrive early to share a table.

Children and families

On the candlelit cruise children eat a three-course dinner, and children under 3 are not suitable guests. The drinks sail takes children aged 0 to 3 free of charge with an infant ticket and everyone aged 4 and up on a standard ticket, and guests under 18 must be accompanied by an adult and may not drink alcohol. For a family dinner, the candlelit cruise is the quieter room, and the drinks sail is the shorter one.

A table on the river is not a private room

A dinner cruise puts you among other guests, with live music in the room, so it is a shared evening and not a private one. No reserved table or window seat can be promised on any of the three cruises. The candlelit cruise leads you to a table when you board, the buffet cruise states that specific tables cannot be guaranteed, and the drinks sail seats people first come, first served. Think of the river as the privacy: the shore recedes while you eat.

Booking with room to move

All three cruises carry free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure and a reserve now, pay later option, which makes it easy to hold a date for a celebration while the rest of the plan settles. The candlelit cruise is likely to sell out on popular dates, so hold your evening early and change your mind later if you must. Check the time on your confirmation, and tell everyone in the party where Dock 7 is.

Planning a celebration around the cruise

Pick the evening first, then the boat. Book a date with some slack if the occasion cannot move, since the dinner cruise is likely to sell out on popular dates. Decide in advance who needs a special diet, since the candlelit cruise cannot provide a vegan menu. Arrive at least 20 minutes early so your party boards together, and keep the decorative lighting in mind: it is the city's call and cannot be promised.
